Electrical Panel Upgrades in Wesley Chapel, FL
Panel Replacements and Service Upgrades With an Outdoor Disconnect|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Include your community's name and which wall the meter is on.
A new panel used to be a job inside the garage. Under the code Florida has enforced since December 31, 2023, replacing service equipment can also put a shut-off on the outside wall; Pasco decides that when it issues the permit. In a Wesley Chapel community that reviews changes to the outside of homes, that box on the wall becomes part of the plan.

The outdoor disconnect
The Shut-Off That Moves Outside
The National Electrical Code requires new services for one- and two-family homes to have an emergency disconnect in a readily accessible outdoor location, and every service conductor must terminate in it. The enclosure carries a permanent label that reads EMERGENCY DISCONNECT, so anyone arriving at the house knows which handle cuts the power.
Three ways to meet it
A meter-main combines the meter and a main breaker in a single enclosure, which is larger than a plain meter base. A listed switch or breaker can instead go beside the meter, ahead of the panel inside. Where the panel already hangs outside, its main breaker can serve once it's marked.
When the outdoor device, such as a meter-main, serves as the service disconnect, the indoor panel is fed from it, so its neutral and ground bars are separated, and the feeder between the two carries its own grounding conductor.
On a Wesley Chapel house
Most Wesley Chapel houses were built before this requirement reached Florida, so on those, when the permit calls for it, the outdoor disconnect is new equipment the job adds, and it goes at or near the meter the builder placed. It has to stay reachable without a ladder or moving anything, so an air conditioner, pool equipment, or a fence crowding the meter wall can change where the enclosure sits.
Community Review in Meadow pointe
Meadow Pointe's Review of Changes to the Outside of a Home
In Meadow Pointe, the Meadow Pointe (I) Community Development District reviews exterior work on homes in its 11 villages, from Meadowlands and the Savannahs to Summerbrooke and Pinedale. Its review covers "any improvements, changes, alterations or additions to an existing building," and that approval is in addition to the county permit. Whether a new disconnect or meter-main on a side wall needs it is for the District to say.
You take the estimate to your community if it reviews exterior changes. We apply for the permit with Pasco County Building Construction Services and coordinate the shut-off and restore with your power company.
What the District asks to see
The application asks for front, side, and rear elevations as appropriate; a survey showing the existing improvements and easements; a list of exterior materials and colors; and 30 days for review. The owner agrees not to start until written approval arrives. The equipment and the wall it goes on are the details the plans need.
Stucco and paint around a bigger box
When a meter-main replaces a smaller meter base, the stucco around it may need patching. The District's standards call for stucco at least 1/2 inch thick on block, primed and painted with two coats, in colors from its approved palette. On a wall clearly visible from the street, repainting the whole visible area may be required if the patch can't be matched, so list the patch and paint in the same application.
We don't live in Meadow Pointe. Does any of this apply to us?
Only our meter base is being replaced. Do we get the outdoor disconnect too?
Pricing
How a Wesley Chapel Panel and Disconnect Job Is Quoted
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Warranty terms for the new equipment
03If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
