A dock puts wiring a few feet above the water people swim in and leaves it out in salt air, sun, and storm surge. We wire boat lifts, jet ski lifts, dock lighting, and marine shore power, and we repair them when they quit.

Wiring That Lives Over the Water
Wiring on a dock fails in ways wiring in a house doesn't. Salt air eats plain steel, sun cracks lightweight conduit, boats and dock lines knock into whatever is mounted low, and one loose connection near the water is a shock hazard.
Stainless-steel straps and hardware
We fasten conduit, boxes, and fixtures with stainless steel straps and hardware. Plain or plated steel rusts on a dock, and once a strap rusts through, the conduit it held can sag, crack, and let water into the run.
Schedule 80 conduit
We run dock circuits in Schedule 80 conduit. Its wall is thicker than Schedule 40, which is what you want where a bow, a cooler, or a boot can hit it.
All the metal, bonded with #8 bare copper
We bond all the metal on the dock with #8 bare copper wire: the lift frame, the motor, metal ladders and rails, and the boxes and fixtures. Bonding ties them together so they sit at the same voltage. The circuit's grounding conductor provides a path back to the panel for a fault to trip the breaker.
Ground-fault protection
Dock circuits need ground-fault protection, which shuts off power when current leaks to water. It's part of the electrical code for docks.
Coverage for work on the water
We carry USL&H (Longshore) coverage for work on the water. It's federal workers' compensation coverage for crews working over navigable water, where a standard state policy may not apply.

1. What's on the dock

2. A look from the panel to the water
For new work, our estimator walks the route from the panel to the dock and discusses where the lights and receptacles will go. For a repair, the electrician checks the circuit, the lift, and the protection.

3. Findings, then the fix or the estimate
We go over what we found and the remedy with you. A repair is done on the spot when it can be; new work gets a written estimate.

Pricing
Billing for Lifts, Lights, and Pedestals
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Our warranty
04If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
