Sign Lighting and Sign Power in Wesley Chapel, FL
LED Conversions and Power for Digital Signs Under Pasco's Sign Code|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Say whether the sign is going LED or digital, and whether it's on the building or out front.
Trading a cabinet sign's fluorescent tubes for LED modules looks like maintenance. Pasco County's sign code treats it as altering the sign. The same code decides where a digital message panel may stand, and that decides where its power has to run. For businesses on State Road 56 and in Wiregrass Ranch's commercial centers, both rules come up before any wiring does.

A new light source
When Relighting a Sign Counts as Altering It
Pasco County's Land Development Code defines altering a sign to include adding sign area, changing a static face to a digital display, and "the changing or relocation of the light source." Changing the copy on a sign built for changeable copy is not an alteration. A sign altered without its required permits is a violation of the code.
For a Wesley Chapel business, that puts an LED conversion of a cabinet sign in the same column as a new sign: the permits are settled before the old tubes and ballasts come out. The county's permit desk confirms which permits your conversion needs.
The code also caps the light itself. Any illuminated sign, neon included, may not produce more than 1 foot-candle of light 4 feet from the sign, measured from its base. LED modules can be brighter than the tubes they replace, so modules and power supplies are chosen with that limit in mind.
Digital Monument signs
Power for a Digital Monument Sign Under Pasco's Rules
In office, commercial, and industrial districts, and the office, commercial, or industrial portions of a master-planned unit development (MPUD), Pasco allows a digital display on a new monument sign or an existing conforming one. We supply the power to a digital sign and don't set up the display. Our part is the circuit, the disconnect, and the connection the sign needs.
The county's rules for the display itself require the sign's owner and the company that sets it up to meet the following: ambient light monitors that automatically adjust brightness; no more than 1,000 nits by day and 350 nits from sunset to sunrise; and a black screen if the display malfunctions.
Other rules decide where the power goes. The structure can be no taller than 11 feet, and the digital area no more than half the face, so power runs to a base at ground level, and the static part of the face may need its own lighting circuit. The sign must be at least 100 feet from any residential district or use, and it may emit no more than 0.2 foot-candles of light at the property line. Its location is fixed before the trench to its base is laid out.
Those last two rules matter in Wiregrass Ranch. Its master plan permits commercial and professional office uses on parcels that border single-family homes, attached homes, and townhouses, so on some lots the distance to the nearest home decides whether a digital panel can stand out front at all, and where.

Taking a Sign From Permit to Power

1. The sign, the parcel, and the neighbors
The spec sheets for the new modules or display, the parcel's zoning, and the distance to the nearest home tell us what the county will allow and where the power has to go.

2. Permits before parts
When a sign company is involved, settle early which of us applies for which permit.

3. Wiring and the power connection
On an LED conversion, the new modules and power supplies are wired in.

Pricing
How Sign Work on State Road 56 Is Quoted and Billed
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
