Federal Pacific and Zinsco Panel Replacement in Brooksville, FL
Federal Pacific, Zinsco, Bryant, and Aging Panels|Replacement Estimates by Email|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
A photo of the panel's label, or the insurer's letter, is all we need to start.
- Circuits labeled: Every circuit reconnected, labeled, and tested.
- Licensed & Insured: Florida Certified Electrical Contractor EC13011268.
The letter from your insurance company says the panel has to go before they'll renew. Or a 4-point inspection flagged the brand, or the house you just bought turned out to have a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel.
Our replace list: we always recommend replacing Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and Bryant panels, which many Florida insurers won't write or renew a policy on, and we recommend replacing Westinghouse panels and any panel more than 30 years old. We replace the panel, start to finish.
Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online with a photo of the panel label. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.
If the panel is hot, scorched, or buzzing:
Do not touch it. Stop using the affected circuits, keep clear of the panel, and call. Call 911 if there is smoke or sparking.
How to Tell What You Have
Federal Pacific, Zinsco, and Aging Panels: How to Tell What You Have
Insurers don't all publish the same rules. Each group below has its own tells, and the label often settles which one you have.
Federal Pacific (FPE), including Stab-Lok breakers
Federal Pacific Electric panels were widely installed in homes built from roughly the 1950s into the 1980s. The Stab-Lok breakers in them have long been reported to fail to trip under overload, the job a breaker exists to do, and that reputation is why insurers treat them as a known problem.
- Look for "Federal Pacific" or "FPE" on the door label, or "Stab-Lok" inside the door.
- A photo with the panel door open, and the inner cover left on, lets us identify the brand before anyone visits.
Zinsco (and panels sold under the Sylvania name)
Zinsco panels are widely reported to have breakers that can loosen or fuse to the bus bar, so a breaker can stay on when it should trip. Some were sold under the Sylvania-Zinsco name, and insurers group them with Federal Pacific.
- Look for "Zinsco" or "Sylvania" on the label.
- Some panels have lost their labels; the breakers inside still identify them to an electrician.
- Signs of heat or scorching at the panel mean the replacement shouldn't wait.
Bryant, Westinghouse, and panels more than 30 years old
Bryant panels are on the list many insurers work from. Westinghouse panels and any panel more than 30 years old are on our replace list. After decades of Florida heat and humidity, connections wear, and insurers note panel age on 4-point reports.
- The installation date is sometimes on the label; otherwise the home's age is a fair guide.
- Corrosion on the bus bar or main breaker can show up in older outdoor panels.
- An older panel can also be too small for today's air conditioning and appliances.

1. Send the letter or a photo of the label
It tells us the brand and size, and your insurer's deadline, if there is one.

2. The estimator visit
Our estimator confirms the brand and the panel's size, counts the circuits that will be moved, and checks what the building department and the power company will require.

3. The record for your agent
Once the inspection passes, you send your invoice and the inspection record to your insurance agent.

If the Panel Is undersized
When the Flagged Panel Is Too Small as Well
A flagged panel may be undersized too. If the estimator finds the house needs more capacity, for an air conditioner, a tankless water heater, or an EV charger down the road, the estimate shows both options so you can decide once.
How Replacement Is Priced
How Panel Replacement Is Priced
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
When an insurer's deadline is close, a set price for a new panel can look like the quick answer. Yours depends on what the estimator finds: whether the panel is also too small for the house, how many circuits move across, and what the building department and the power company ask for.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Our warranty
03If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
