Subpanel Installation in Brooksville, FL
Garages, Workshops, Barns, Pool Pads, and Additions|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Describe what the subpanel will power and how far it is from the main panel.
- Load checked first. We confirm the service can carry the new circuits.
- Licensed & Insured. Florida Certified Electrical Contractor EC13011268.
The main panel is on the far side of the house, every space in it is taken, and the new workshop, pool equipment, or addition needs circuits of its own.
A subpanel is a smaller panel fed from the main one and set close to the new load, so its circuits run short distances and there is room to add more later.

What a Subpanel does
What a Subpanel Can and Can't Do
It adds room, not power
A subpanel adds breaker spaces where you need them. It doesn't add capacity: everything it feeds still comes through the main panel and the service from the power company, which may need an upgrade of its own.
The feeder
A breaker in the main panel feeds the subpanel through a set of conductors sized to the load and the distance. The farther the run, the heavier the wire has to be to keep voltage from dropping. To a detached building, the feeder runs underground in conduit or overhead.
Neutral and ground kept apart
In the main panel, the neutral and the ground are bonded together. In a subpanel, they stay separate, on their own bars, so everyday current doesn't travel on the ground wires and the metal they connect to.
Detached buildings
A subpanel in a detached garage, shop, or barn gets its own grounding electrode, such as ground rods, and a way to shut off the building's power.
Where subpanels go
- Detached garages, sheds, and workshops, where tools and lights need their own circuits.
- Pole barns and metal buildings on acreage.
- Pool equipment pads with a pump, a heater, and automation to power.
- Additions and remodels that need a block of new circuits.

How a Subpanel goes in
How We Add a Subpanel
-
1
1. What it will power
Tell us the building or room, the equipment going in, and anything you expect to add later. Planning for later now avoids pulling a bigger feeder a second time.
-
2
2. Load numbers and the route
On site, our estimator runs the load calculation and walks the path the feeder will take from the main panel.
-
3
3. Permit
Where the job needs a permit, we pull it and schedule the inspection.
-
4
4. Feeder, panel, and grounding
The feeder breaker goes in the main panel, the feeder is run, and the subpanel is mounted and grounded, with its circuits installed.
-
5
5. Tested and labeled
Each new circuit is tested and labeled in the subpanel's directory.

| Part | Included | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Load calculation | Yes | Sets the feeder and panel size |
| Feeder breaker in the main panel | Yes | Protects the feeder |
| Feeder conductors, underground or overhead | Yes | Carries power to the subpanel |
| Subpanel with separate neutral and ground bars | Yes | Keeps current off the ground path |
| Ground rods and a building disconnect | Detached buildings | Required there |
| Trenching for an underground feeder | Priced in the estimate | Ground conditions affect the work |
| New circuits from the subpanel | As quoted | Outlets, lights, and equipment |
Estimating a Subpanel
Getting a Number for Your Subpanel
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
What the estimate depends on
- The distance from the main panel, and whether the feeder goes underground.
- How much you're adding now and planning for later.
- Whether the main panel has a space for the feeder breaker.
Our warranty
If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
