  • High and vaulted ceilings: Downrods sized to the ceiling, and the right ladders.
  • Licensed & Insured: Florida Certified Electrical Contractor EC13011268.

Lanai fans are an everyday service call for us. We also hang fans on vaulted ceilings and rehang the ones wobbling on an old light box.

What holds a fan up matters: a box rated for a fan, braced to the framing above. On a lanai, we install fans rated for wet locations.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

Box, bracing, and ratings

The Box, the Brace, and the Rating: What a Proper Fan Install Means

01

A box sized and rated for a fan

Light-fixture boxes aren't designed to support a fan's weight or withstand its motion. A proper install puts the fan on a box marked for fan support, sized for the fan you're hanging.

  • An old light box is checked before a fan goes on it.
02

Bracing to the framing

The box has to be tied to the structure. Where the fan sits between ceiling joists, a fan brace spans them, and the box mounts to the brace. Without it, a fan can work itself loose and start to wobble.

03

Wet-rated fans for the lanai

Lanai fans live in humidity and driven rain, even under a roof and a screen. Fans rated for wet locations have sealed motors and weather-resistant blades and finishes; indoor fans used outside rust, sag, and fail early.

  • Wet-rated for lanais and porches, as we recommend.
  • Stainless or coated hardware near the coast.

How a Fan is installed

How We Install a Ceiling Fan

  1. 1

    1. Check what's in the ceiling

The existing box, its support, and the wiring. If there's no box, we plan a new one.

  2. 2

    2. Box and brace

A fan-rated box is installed, braced to the framing, and sized for the fan.

  3. 3

    3. Downrod and height

The downrod is sized so the blades sit at a comfortable, safe height, which matters most on vaulted and high ceilings.

  4. 4

    4. Wiring and controls

The fan and its light are wired to a wall switch, a pull chain, or a remote receiver, depending on which the fan uses.

  5. 5

    5. Balance

The fan is run at every speed and balanced to prevent wobbling.

  6. 6

    6. Show you the controls

The remote, the light, and the wall control.

How Fan installs are priced

What Goes Into a Fan Quote

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installations, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

03

Ceiling height, attic access, and fan size set the price of an install.

04

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

Our warranty

05

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Speed, Spin, and Wobble

Can I control my fan's speed with a regular dimmer?

No. A standard light dimmer isn't designed for a fan motor and can cause it to hum or overheat. Use the fan's own remote or pull chain, or a wall control made for fan speed.

Can you hang a fan on a vaulted or sloped ceiling?

Yes, with a fan and mount made for sloped ceilings and a downrod long enough to keep the blades clear of the slope.

Why does my fan wobble?

A loose box, a missing brace, a bent blade holder, or blades that need balancing. The first two are the ones that get worse with time.

Which way should my fan spin in summer?

Counterclockwise, looking up, so it pushes air down on you. The reverse switch sends it the other way for cooler months.
