A panel upgrade inside Zephyrhills city limits ends with the city's inspector, and the city doesn't give an arrival time. The inspector's normal field hours run from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and when the inspection means going inside, as it does for a panel in a garage or utility room, someone has to be at the house to meet the inspector.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

The city inspection

When the City's Inspector Comes to the House

Two of the city Building Department's terms shape inspection day:

  • A carried-over inspection: One carried over from the previous workday gets priority the next morning, so the wait can run into a second day.
  • Numbers on the front: The city's inspection list calls for permanent address numbers, 3 inches high, on the front of the structure at the final inspection.

Where the pre-meter inspection fits

The city lists five electrical inspections: construction pole, temporary service, rough, pre-meter, and final. Whether an upgrade on a house that already has power gets a pre-meter inspection as well as a final is for the Building Department to say when the permit is issued.

Seasonal homes

A Zephyrhills House Held for Seasonal Use

If your Zephyrhills house is one of the roughly 9% held for seasonal use, the upgrade and its inspections go on the calendar for weeks you're in town, or with someone named to open the house, such as a neighbor, a relative, or a property manager, who can be there during the inspector's field hours. Settle the practical pieces before inspection day: a key or door code, the alarm code if there is one, and where any pets will be kept, because animals on the property also require someone to meet the inspector.

Duplexes and triplexes

Marking the Meter Cans on a Duplex or Triplex

On duplexes, triplexes, and other multi-unit buildings, the city's inspection list calls for each meter can to be marked to match its unit's house number.

The marking lets the inspector, the power company, and anyone who works on the building later tell which meter feeds which unit. Whether the other units lose power while one is worked on depends on how the building's meters are fed.

Frequently asked questions

When the Owner Is Out of Town

Can we approve the work now and have it done next season?

The permit's timing matters. The city accepts a request to extend a permit only before six months have passed since it was issued, and it grants one extension of 90 days.

What happens if the inspection fails while we're away?

The Building Department gives results by phone, and when an inspection fails, the details are written up and left at the job site.

Pricing

Pricing Panel Work Inside Zephyrhills

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Coverage after the panel goes in

03

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
