A home EV charger in Zephyrhills comes as two purchases: the charger and the wiring that feeds it. If your power bill comes from Duke Energy, which primarily serves the Zephyrhills area, only the wiring counts toward its one-time Charger Prep Credit.

What duke's Credit counts

A Credit Written for the Wiring

For the Florida credit, a charger job is sorted this way:

With a 14-50 outlet, the circuit and the outlet are counted. With a hardwired wall unit, the circuit is counted, and hanging and setting up the unit are left out.

The owner's application

Applying After the Work Is Paid For

For an owner who picks the electrician, Duke's route is its Customer Credit Option: the work is done and paid for, and then the owner applies.

01

Who Duke lets apply

The applicant should be the Duke account holder or an authorized user, must own the property at the account address, and must own or lease a fully electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle registered there. A car registered at a home in another state doesn't meet that rule.

The window is 120 days, counted from the date on the most recent invoice or the date the EV was registered, whichever is later. Duke's terms state that no customer is guaranteed credit until it is paid, and those terms can change before then.

02

What goes to Duke with the form

  • The car's registration: A copy showing the EV registered to the account address.
  • The contractor's invoice: Itemized and paid, with the contractor's name, address, and phone number; materials and labor as separate items; and the permit cost on its own line.
  • The permit: A copy of the approved permit, which the City of Zephyrhills issues inside the city limits and Pasco County issues at an address outside them.

We apply for the permit and schedule the inspection. Tell us at the estimate that you plan to apply for the credit, so the paperwork Duke asks for is known before the work starts.

Frequently asked questions

A Home on a Rented Lot

I own my home in a park and rent the lot. Can I apply?

Duke offers the residential credit to customers who own a single-family home or a townhome. It also requires the applicant to own the property at the account address. Get Duke's answer for a home on a rented lot before you plan around the credit.

Estimates and warranty

When a Zephyrhills Charger Estimate Is Free

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

What we warrant on a charger circuit

03

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

We install home EV chargers. We don't install commercial or fleet EV charging stations.
