Hernando's Sign Code, Seen From the Panel
Signs in Spring Hill comply with Hernando County's sign code, and its lighting rules govern fixture selection. A lamp whose bare source or glaring reflection is visible to a public street must be 15 watts or less, and floods and spotlights must be shielded from streets and neighboring properties. On a monument sign lit from the ground, the aim and the shields are set before the floods are chosen.
The electrical side gets its own lines on the paperwork. The county's application for a commercial on-site sign has separate license blocks for the sign contractor and the electrical contractor. It also wants a site plan on a survey, a plat, or a scale drawing, showing the setback from the property line to the sign's leading edge. That plan is a good place to measure the run from the building to a monument or pylon base.
How it runs
Label First, Lights Last
-
1
The label the county asks about
Hernando's sign application requires the UL number for any sign with electrical components, and that number is on the sign's label along with its voltage and load. The circuit is sized from the same label.
-
2
The panel comes first
A new sign's circuit must start at a panel with room for a breaker, so the panel is checked first. For a pylon or monument out by the road, the check includes the route across the lot, since a run under pavement or landscaping changes the job. On a dark sign, we test outward: the breaker, then the shut-off at the sign, then the sign.

Whose permit it is
Sometimes the sign company holds the permit, and sometimes we pull our own, and the walk-through decides which. Whoever applies certifies to the county that no work or installation has started before the permit is issued, so the new sign's circuit waits for it. When the permit is ours, we schedule its inspection.

Every letter lit, the shut-off shown
The last check is made at the sign with the power on: every letter or lamp lit, the control set to the hours you keep, and the shut-off shown to whoever opens the business.

What we cover
What We Wire on a Sign
Monument and pylon signs: Hernando won't process a sign application until the sign's spot is staked on the property, and that stake is where the underground run from the building is planned to end. The run ends in a shut-off at the base, the ground floods aimed at the face, and a fault somewhere along an older, buried run is traced before anything is dug up.
Storefront channel letters: The feed that reaches the letters, a shut-off mounted where the person working on them can see it, and the power supplies, each lighting its own run of letters.
Cabinet and lightbox signs: Fluorescent cabinets kept running or switched over to LED, and a failed LED driver inside a newer box was swapped out.
A sign on a shared circuit: When a sign has been borrowing a circuit that feeds something else, it gets one of its own, sized from its label.
Pricing
The Route Sets the Quote
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
A new sign circuit is quoted after we've seen the route between the panel and the sign. A sign that has gone dark starts with a repair visit, and any larger fix found during that visit is priced in writing before it's done.
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Our warranty
05If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
