Whole House or Selected Rooms|Rewired Circuits Held to Today's Code|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Say whether the whole house or certain rooms are on your mind.
More of Spring Hill's homes date from the 1980s than from any other decade, and a house from those years can still be running on its first branch circuits. Rewire one, and each new circuit is inspected against Florida's electrical code.
Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.
Forty-year-old Circuits
What Changes When Old Branch Circuits Are Replaced
Arc-fault protection on rewired living-area circuits
Arc-fault protection entered the code with the 1999 edition and applied to bedroom circuits from 2002, so a house built here before then wasn't required to have it in any room. Florida's electrical code requires it whenever branch-circuit wiring is replaced in kitchens, bedrooms, living and family rooms, hallways, closets, laundry areas, and similar rooms. A rewire replaces exactly that wiring, so those circuits come back arc-fault protected.
Breakers the panel has to accept
At the panel, that protection usually takes arc-fault breakers listed for the panel's make. If the existing panel has no such breakers available, or no room for the circuits the plan adds, replacing it may be part of the rewire, and the estimate reflects that.
An electrical evaluation of the existing devices and the panel shows how far a problem reaches. A scorched outlet, a string of dead outlets, or a failed splice at one box is repaired on that circuit. One circuit's fault doesn't by itself call for rewiring the house.
County Repair Programs
Hernando County Repair Programs That Cover Electrical Hazards
Hernando County's Housing and Supportive Services Department runs two programs, funded through the state's SHIP housing program, that can pay for electrical work in an owner's home. The Emergency Repair Program lists electrical hazards among the repairs it provides, and the county's housing plan says it can serve owners who can't obtain homeowners insurance due to the home's condition. The Owner-Occupied Rehab Program takes on larger work, correcting code violations and removing health and safety hazards.
Both are for income-qualified owners whose home is their homesteaded primary residence, and the housing plan requires rehab applicants to have lived in the homestead for 2 years. Help comes as a grant or a forgivable loan, and a loan is repaid if the home is sold or stops being the owner's primary residence. Apply to the department before any work is scheduled.

The work and the Inspections
How a Rewire Meets the County's Inspections
-
1
1. The permit before the wiring
We apply to the Hernando County Building Division for the electrical permit before any old wiring comes out.
-
2
2. The days you need power
Before the work starts, name anything that can't go without power for part of a day, such as a freezer or a home office.
-
3
3. Rough-in, before the patching
The county inspects the new cable and boxes before the drywall openings are closed, so patching and paint in an area wait until its rough-in passes.
-
4
4. Final inspection
Outlets, switches, and fixtures go in, each circuit is tested, and the county's final inspection closes the permit.
Estimates
A Rewire Starts With an Estimate
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Our warranty
03If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
