Driveway post light on a photocell at a Spring Hill, FL home at dusk.

Two kinds of light reach a Spring Hill driveway after dark. The streetlight on the pole is provided by a county lighting district and the power company. The lights on your own lot, from the garage to the front walk to a post by the drive, are the ones we install.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

What We install

Lighting We Put on Spring Hill Lots

  • A dusk-to-dawn post light by the drive: On a photocell, fed by a buried circuit from the house.
  • Coach lights beside the garage door: Replaced, or added where the wall has none.
  • Walkway lights to the front door: Low fixtures along the path, on a timer or a photocell.

Streetlights and Your Lot

Streetlights, Yard Lights, and Your Lot Line

Spring Hill has its own county street-lighting district, the Spring Hill Street Lighting MSBU, a special-assessment unit administered under Hernando County Policy 16-01. The policy spells out who handles the streetlights, and it isn't an electrician: a new streetlight is requested through the Department of Public Works, reviewed by the power company, and approved by the Board of County Commissioners, which reviews these requests twice a year.

01

A utility light in your own yard

Not every pole light on a lot belongs to the owner. WREC's online Street Light Repair form asks whether the light stands on public property, commercial property, or a homeowner's property, and whether you pay for it. If the power company owns the light, the repair goes to the company, even when the pole is in your yard. A post light you bought and had wired is yours, and we can repair or replace it.

02

Your side of the right-of-way

The Oaks of Spring Hill's homeowners association reminds residents that the swale along the street is county property. Hernando County requires Public Works approval for any work in the county right-of-way, and a private installation there needs a signed agreement with the county. A driveway post light and the cable that feeds it belong on your side of that line, so we set the post back from the swale, and your survey or plat shows where the line runs.

Spring Hill Outdoor Lighting FAQ

Who Fixes Which Light?

The streetlight shines into our bedroom window. Can you shield it?

Not the streetlight itself; it's the power company's fixture, so a request to adjust it goes to the company. On your own lot, we can aim, shield, or put a timer on the lights you own.

Estimates

Estimates for Lighting a Spring Hill Lot

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installations, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Our warranty

03

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
