Four things bring people to a panel replacement: the panel is full, an EV charger or tankless water heater is coming, the insurer wants it replaced, or the panel is simply old.
We handle the paperwork and the power company. We apply for the permit, coordinate the power shut-off and restore with the power company, and schedule the county or city inspection. You just provide access for the inspector.

What's Driving Panel Upgrades on the Nature Coast
Three things put a new panel on the calendar in homes here: the insurance company, new equipment the old panel can't carry, and a panel that has simply reached the end of its life.
The insurance company
Many Florida insurers flag certain older panel brands, and insurers note panel age on 4-point reports.
Age and condition
Heat, humidity, and decades of use wear panels out. Burn marks, excessive corrosion, and breakers that run hot are reasons to replace rather than repair.
More load: EV chargers, tankless water heaters, and mini-splits
Each of these adds a large circuit, and an older 100-amp panel with every space filled may not have the room or the capacity for it. A new panel of the same size can solve the space problem; if the load has outgrown the service, the house needs more from the power company.
- EV chargers: a 240-volt circuit sized to the charger, up to 60 amps for a hardwired unit.
- Tankless electric water heaters: often among the largest loads in a house.
- Ductless mini-splits: each outdoor unit gets its own circuit.
- Pool equipment, hot tubs, and workshop tools add up in the same panel.
Replacement or service upgrade
Same-Size Replacement or a Service Upgrade?
Two jobs share the same name. A like-for-like replacement swaps the panel and breakers and keeps the service the house already has. A service upgrade increases the capacity from the power company, which usually means changes at the meter base and the service conductors, as well as the power company's involvement on its side.
Replacement: the right call when the panel is the problem, and the load hasn't grown.
Service upgrade: the right call when a load calculation shows the house needs more than it has.

The old panel comes out, the new one goes in, and every circuit is reconnected, labeled, and tested. The house is without power for part of the day.

Sometimes a subpanel is the better answer
If the main panel is sound but the new load is far from it, such as a detached garage, a workshop, or a pool, and the service has the capacity for it, a subpanel near the load can make more sense than replacing the main.

01We don't do upfront pricing. Some companies quote one standard figure for a panel replacement before anyone has been to the house. Your panel job is priced once our estimator has seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Why two panel quotes differ

- Whether the job is a like-for-like replacement or a service upgrade.
- Anything the code adds, such as the surge device.
- Where the panel is and how easily the circuits reconnect.
Our warranty
If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
