EV Charger Installation in Land O' Lakes, FL

Home Chargers for Cooperative and Duke Addresses|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268

A Level 2 charger is a 240-volt circuit ending in a receptacle or a wall unit. In Land O' Lakes, the power company on your bill determines which programs apply, and Connerton adds parking rules of its own.

Connerton's Parking Rules and the Cooperative's Peak Alerts

In Connerton, the homeowner rules keep cars off the street after 11 p.m. and off the driveway apron, and street-facing garage doors stay closed unless the garage is in use. So, the car charges overnight in the garage, and the charger is where the car parks. About 1,100 of Connerton's roughly 1,800 occupied homes heat with gas, in Census Bureau survey estimates covering 2020 through 2024. A gas-heated house puts less strain on the electric grid on cold mornings, and that matters when the panel's spare capacity is counted.

Across Land O' Lakes, the power company is Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative or Duke Energy, depending on the address. At a cooperative address, WREC issues Beat the Peak alerts when the cost of buying and producing power is high and asks members to delay using major appliances such as dishwashers and dryers. A car on a Level 2 circuit draws more than either.

How it runs

What You Bring, and What the Estimator Measures

  1. 1

    The bill and the car

Have the name on your electric bill and the car's charging rating, or the charger's model number. The rating sets the size of the circuit. If the car isn't home yet, the maker's spec sheet lists its onboard charger's rating.

  2. 2

Wall, attic, and the panel's open spaces

The estimator measures from the panel to where the car will be parked, notes whether the run follows the garage wall or crosses the attic, and checks the panel's capacity and open spaces. Where the panel hangs on an outside wall, the estimator also notes where the run can enter the garage. If the car may park outside later, say so if the route allows it.

  3. 3

    County paperwork, filed by us

We file the permit with its plans and, once the circuit is in, book the county's inspection. On the day, the garage needs to be open to us, with the car moved if it blocks the panel or the charger.

  4. 4

A test charge, and hours you set

The charger is tested before we leave, and you'll see which breaker in the panel runs it, with its label in place. Charging hours are then set in the car or in the charger's app, where a peak alert can also be answered.

What we cover

Short Runs, Long Runs, and a Full Panel

Beside the panel, in the garage: The shortest job. The car is here, and the wall unit isn't, so a 14-50 receptacle lets a portable cord charge the car from the first night, and the circuit behind it can be sized for a wall unit later.

The bay across from the panel: The run crosses the garage wall or the attic to reach the side where the car's charging port ends up. A wall charger you've already bought goes on a circuit rated up to 60 amps, matching its label, as long as it's UL or ETL listed. A unit you brought from your last house is handled the same way. Send its model number with your request.

On the driveway, outside Connerton: Where the car stays outside, the unit goes on an outside wall and has to be rated for outdoor use.

Behind a full panel: If the load check says the house can't take another 240-volt circuit, the estimate prices a load-management device or panel work. A load-management device monitors the house's draw and slows or pauses the charger when the combined load exceeds the charger's capacity.

Pricing

From the Panel to the Port

01

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

02

A garage panel a few feet from the parking spot is the short end of the estimate, and a run through the attic to the far bay is the long end. Panel work or load management, when the load checks call for it, is shown on the estimate as an option.

03

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installations, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

Our warranty

04

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Common questions

Before the Circuit Is Sized

What should the car do during a Beat the Peak alert?

Wait it out, if your car or charger lets you set charging hours; many do, and the car can finish later in the night. The alerts are a request to delay use, so charging through one is your choice. The alerts come from the cooperative, so at a Duke Energy address they don't apply.

Our bill comes from Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative. Is there a charger incentive?

Possibly. The cooperative's website has a tool listing rate programs and incentives a member may qualify for; check it, or call WREC, before the install. If you do apply for something, tell us when you book, so the permit paperwork lines up with the program.

Our Connerton house heats with gas. Does that make room on the panel for a charger?

It can help. The load check counts what runs on electricity in your house, and the gas burners of a furnace, water heater, or range aren't part of that, though the furnace's blower still is. The panel still needs an open space and sufficient capacity for the circuit, which the estimator will check during the visit.

Our panel already has a spare breaker space. Is a permit still needed?

Yes. The open space makes the job simpler, but Pasco's small-project exemption leaves out electrical work, so the new circuit is permitted either way.

A pool is going in next year. Can the charger circuit allow for it now?

Yes. A pool pump and a heater add their own load, and the estimator can size the charger circuit and any load-management device with the pool's equipment counted, so any panel work is done once.
