A Level 2 charger circuit can go in on one visit. Within the Inverness city limits, the city's calendar sits on either side of that visit: the city issues the electrical permit and schedules inspections only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

Permit and calendar

How Inverness's Permit Shapes a Charger Job

The application includes a layout plan of the building showing where the electrical panel is.

Processing time and inspection days

The city's electrical permit checklist asks applicants to allow two to three days for the permit to be processed. Once the circuit is in, its inspection can land only on one of the city's three inspection days. A job wired on a Tuesday or a Thursday waits at least until the next day, and one finished after Friday's inspections waits through the weekend. We apply for the permit and schedule the inspection.

An address beyond the city line gets its permit from Citrus County.

Frequently asked Questions

Questions Before an Inverness Install

The house is owned by an LLC. Does that change the permit?

When the property appraiser's record or the deed lists a company, a corporation, or an LLC as the owner, the city requires a licensed contractor to submit the electrical permit, so the owner can't submit it. We hold a state electrical contractor's license, and we apply for the permit required for the job.

My car arrives before the charger can go in. Where can I charge?

Downtown Inverness has public Level 2 plugs, the same class of charging a home wall charger provides.

Pricing

Your Inverness Charger Estimate

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Labor and materials under warranty

03

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

The owner's Items

Items the Owner Supplies

  • Proof of ownership: The city asks for it with the application, and after a recent purchase, that means a copy of the deed.
  • The power company's name: The permit has to name the company serving the address, which is the one on your electric bill. If the charger calls for a panel or service upgrade, that's the company we coordinate the power shut-off with.
  • Access on inspection day: The inspector has to be able to reach the panel and the charger.

We install home EV chargers. We don't install commercial or fleet EV charging stations.
