Lift Circuits, Dock Lights, and Ground-Fault Protection on Kings Bay|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Mention whether the dock has a cover and whether a neighbor shares it.
Kings Bay draws swimmers and snorkelers who come to see manatees, including on guided tours run under the wildlife refuge's permits. The bay is also fed by springs, which keeps its water far less salty than the Gulf's, and that may change what current leaking from a dock can do to a person in the water.

Kings bay's Water
Low-Salinity Water Around a Kings Bay Dock
Spring-fed, and only a little salty
About 70 springs feed the 600-acre bay, and a water district scientist put its salinity at 2 or 3 parts per thousand in 2013, against about 35 in the Gulf.
Why that matters to a swimmer
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) explains the risk in fresh water: it conducts poorly, so a body in it is a better path for current than the surrounding water, and current that leaks into the water is more likely to flow through a person.
That's the case for ground-fault protection on every circuit that reaches a Kings Bay dock: the lift motor, the dock lights, and the receptacles. When the lift is serviced, the bond tying its frame and motor to the dock's other metal is worth a check too.
Monthly test
Testing Your Dock's Protection Each Month

1. Clear the water, then press TEST
NFPA recommends testing GFCIs monthly. With no one swimming near the dock or holding the lift, a ladder, or the boat, press TEST on each GFCI receptacle and on any ground-fault breaker in the panel that feeds the dock. The power it protects should go off.

2. Reset, and note what didn't trip
Press RESET to bring the power back. A device that won't trip, or won't reset, leaves that circuit without working protection, so keep it off and call us to find out why.
City Dock Rules
Crystal River's Dock Rules That Reach the Wiring
Covers open on every side
Within city limits, Crystal River allows covered docks, boathouses, and boat covers over the water, but none may be enclosed on any side. Rain and spray reach everything under the roof, so the light fixtures, the lift switch, and any receptacle mounted there need wet-location ratings and weatherproof boxes and covers, the same as gear on an open deck.
A boat lift, davit, cover, or boathouse can be raised to 17 feet above mean high water, with the builder certifying the elevation. Fixture heights and the conduit route up the pilings follow the builder's design for the cover.
One lift, two lots
Crystal River allows a joint dock, with its lift and cover, to serve two lots when the owners record an agreement that covers the dock's location, joint use, access for all users, and maintenance. The agreement goes on Citrus County's public records before the permit for the joint dock is issued.
The code doesn't say whose power runs a shared lift. Our advice is to settle it in that agreement: either one owner's panel feeds the lift and the lights, or each owner gets a separate circuit for their own equipment. The agreement must also carry enforceable joint maintenance obligations, and who tests the ground-fault devices each month belongs there too.
Pricing
Booking and Billing Dock Work on Kings Bay
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
What our warranty covers
04If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
