Electrician in Crystal River, FL
Flood Rebuilds, Rewiring, Panels, and Repairs|City and County Permits Handled|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
In 13 months, Crystal River took a flood that closed City Hall for good (Idalia, August 2023), a tornado (October 2023), and the largest storm surge on record in Citrus County (Helene, September 2024).
For a house that took water, the rebuild is when its wiring is easiest to reach.
Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.
If the walls are already opened up, say so when you book.

Permits
City Limits or County: Who Issues the Permit
Crystal River is an incorporated city, and within its limits, the City of Crystal River Building Department issues permits and conducts inspections. Citrus County sends in-city applications there. Outside the limits, the Citrus County Building Division handles it. When a job needs a permit, we pull it with whichever office covers your address.
On a rebuild, the timing matters. New wiring must pass its rough-in inspection before drywall covers it, and the city lists inspections on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so the inspection calendar helps determine when your walls can close.
Local conditions
Rewiring a Crystal River Home After the Water
How high the water reached
The city sits on the northeast side of Kings Bay, which the Crystal River connects to the Gulf. During Helene, the National Hurricane Center reported that at least 300 homes in Crystal River and Homosassa Springs had up to 5 feet of water inside.
Five feet of water covers every outlet and switch on a wall, the lower runs of wire inside it, and at least the lower part of a panel mounted in the garage. Wire that sat in floodwater is replaced.
While the walls are open
A flood cut exposes the lower part of every wall at once, which is rare access to the wiring. Besides replacing what the water ruined, it's also the moment to add the kitchen or laundry circuits you were missing, move outlets to where the rebuilt rooms need them, and check whether the panel can handle what you plan to add.
Where electrical work lands in the city's 50% review
The City of Crystal River enforces FEMA's 50% rule in its mapped flood zones (A, AE, and VE). If a building's lowest floor, or its electrical, plumbing, or mechanical equipment, is more than 1 foot below the base flood elevation, the city compares the cost of the repair or improvement to the structure's market value. At 50% or higher, the building must meet current flood rules, and the city's notice says all electrical and mechanical equipment must be elevated or moved out of the flood hazard area.
The city's cost form gives electrical and light fixtures a line of their own, and even a fixture swap that normally needs no permit is counted while a house is under review. The circuits and moved outlets you add while the walls are open go into the same total as the flood repairs. The city also asks for an elevation certificate and a contractor-signed estimate covering all of the work, so settle the electrical scope before that estimate is filed.

How we work
What to Expect When You Call
Someone in our office answers during business hours and sets up the appropriate visit.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Kings Bay Docks and Waterfront Kitchens
Dock wiring inside the city limits
Crystal River requires a city building permit to build, remodel, or repair a boat dock, and its permitting notice states that routine maintenance doesn't include any changes to a dock's electrical wiring. A new lift circuit, added dock lights, or rewired dock outlets on a Kings Bay lot within the limits require city building department approval before work starts.
Restaurant equipment going back in
Idalia flooded businesses along US 19 in 2023, and after Helene, waterfront restaurants here pulled their kitchen equipment out into their parking lots. Before a cooler, fryer, or ice machine is plugged back in, the circuit that fed it needs to be checked, and the receptacle the water reached is replaced.
