NOAA's tide predictions for station 8727122 (Rocky Creek) run from 3.8 feet down to below minus 1 foot across 2026. A boat, a floating dock, and every cord that connects them move through that range while the dock's fixed wiring stays put.

What Five Feet of Tide Does to Dock Wiring

01

The predictions for Rocky Creek

NOAA publishes tide predictions for station 8727122 (Rocky Creek). On September 29, 2026, for example, it predicts highs of 3.6 and 3.1 feet and lows of 0.0 and 1.3 feet: two highs and two lows of different heights, a swing of about 3.6 feet in a morning. Throughout 2026, its highest predicted high is 3.8 feet in July and its lowest predicted low is minus 1.3 feet in December, about 5 feet apart.

Those figures are astronomical predictions. Wind and weather can hold the water above them or push it below, so they set the minimum travel the wiring has to allow for.

02

Where that travel reaches the wiring

On a fixed dock, the receptacle stays where it's mounted while the boat rises and falls beside it. A shore-power cord that hangs with slack at a summer high can pull tight at a winter low, so the pedestal or receptacle goes where the cord can reach the boat's inlet at the bottom of the range.

A floating dock rides the whole range, so the wiring from the fixed shore to the floating section has to flex through about 5 feet of movement. Rigid conduit can't make that trip, and the connection across the gap is built to move.

Anything attached to a moving part, such as a cable to a lift's control or a cord to a boat on the lift, needs enough slack for the full cycle, from the cradle's lowest point to the top.

Pricing

Pricing Lift and Dock Wiring in Hernando Beach

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

03

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

Warranty on lift and dock wiring

04

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

  1. 1

    1. Fixed or floating, and what plugs in

Photos of the dock, the lift, and the boat's shore-power inlet show what the circuit needs to reach.

  2. 2

    2. Heights measured against the tide

Our estimator notes the deck height, the lift's travel, and where the boat sits at a low tide, so every receptacle and switch is placed for the whole range.

  3. 3

    3. A test through the full cycle

After the work, we run the lift from bottom to top and check the cords and the floating connection at both ends of the travel. Hernando County issues any permit the job needs.

Frequently asked Questions

Tide and Dock Questions in Hernando Beach

The tide at my dock doesn't match the published times. Why?

The predictions are for NOAA station 8727122 (Rocky Creek). Water farther up a canal can turn later and reach a different height, so treat the tables as a guide and mark your own dock's high and low lines when you see them. Those marks are what we measure the wiring against.

My shore power cord is tight on some mornings. Is that a problem?

Yes. A tight cord can strain the plug, the receptacle, and the boat's inlet, pulling a connection loose. Have us look at where the pedestal or receptacle sits relative to the boat at low tide.

When is a good time to have the wiring under the dock checked?

The lowest predicted tides of the year fall in the winter months, when more of the pilings and the conduit under the deck are out of the water. That's a practical window for a look at straps, boxes, and connections that sit near the waterline.
