Why sealed 10-year units
Most of our customers don't remember to change replaceable batteries. A sealed unit carries its battery for the life of the alarm. When the 10 years are up, it signals, and the whole alarm is replaced.
Hardwired and interconnected
A hardwired alarm runs on house power with a battery as backup. Interconnected alarms are wired to one another, so smoke in a back bedroom sets off the alarm in the living room, too. One smoke detector for the whole house and no carbon monoxide alarm anywhere is a setup we still find.
Where smoke alarms go
The Florida Building Code requires smoke alarms in each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of a home, with interconnected units in new construction. Homes built under older rules may have fewer. We recommend bringing an older home up to that layout even where no rule forces it.
Where carbon monoxide alarms go
Florida law requires a carbon monoxide alarm within 10 feet of each bedroom in new homes and additions built on or after July 1, 2008, that have a fuel-burning heater or appliance, a fireplace, or an attached garage. A combination smoke and CO alarm covers both jobs in one device. Beyond what the law requires, we recommend a CO alarm outside every bedroom, on every level of the home, and inside any bedroom that has a fuel-burning appliance. That goes for any home with gas appliances or an attached garage, whatever its age.
When a detector chirps
A chirp is the alarm asking for attention: a low battery backup, a replaceable battery due for replacement, or a unit at the end of its life. Smoke alarms are meant to be replaced 10 years from the date printed on the back, so a chirping unit past that date needs replacing, not a new battery.
Doorbells and cameras on the same visit
A detector visit can also cover a video doorbell, or the power and cabling for security cameras.

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
Our warranty
04If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
