Each camera you plan needs power and a signal at the spot where it hangs.

For home security cameras, we install the circuits, breakers, and outlets, and run the Cat6 cable, including power over Ethernet (PoE) runs that carry power and video on one cable.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

Powering home cameras

Power and Signal for Each Camera

01

PoE cameras

A PoE camera draws power and transmits video over a single Cat6 cable, running back to a PoE switch or a network video recorder. One cable per camera, and no outlet at the camera. An Ethernet run can reach up to 328 feet (100 meters), well beyond the distances in a house.

02

Plug-in and Wi-Fi cameras

Wireless cameras still need power: either a rechargeable battery or an outlet nearby. An outdoor outlet goes in with GFCI protection and a weatherproof in-use cover.

03

Where the recorder sits

A recorder or PoE switch needs an outlet and a spot out of the heat and damp. A closet or an air-conditioned utility space suits it. If you want the equipment on a circuit of its own, we add one.

04

Through the eaves

Runs go through the attic and come out at the soffit or eave near each camera, sealed where they pass through, so the cable stays out of the sun and out of reach.

05

Floodlight cameras, doorbells, and Wi-Fi

A floodlight camera is wired for outdoor lighting, a video doorbell runs from the doorbell transformer, and Wi-Fi cameras depend on a strong signal where they are installed.

Estimates

Estimates for Camera Cabling

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Sizing up the job

03
  • The number of camera locations.
  • The route and distance from each camera to the recorder.
  • Outdoor outlets or a new circuit, if the plan needs them.

Our warranty

04

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Your Camera Runs

PoE or Wi-Fi cameras: which is better for wiring?

PoE cameras don't depend on your Wi-Fi signal or a battery. Wi-Fi cameras are simpler to add later but need power at each spot.

Do you set up camera apps or wire cameras for businesses?

No. We run camera cabling and power for homes only. We don't set up apps, recording services, or camera monitoring, and we don't wire commercial security cameras or access control systems.
