Ceiling Fan Installation in Land O' Lakes, FL

Fans Fitted to the Room They Turn In|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268

Kennedy Electric installs ceiling fans in homes in Land O' Lakes and checks each ceiling before a fan goes up. The box above the fixture has to support the fan's weight, the room has to accommodate its blade span, and the distance to the floor determines how low its blades can sit.

Name the rooms and the fan models if you've picked them.

Bedroom Counts and Low Ceilings in Land O' Lakes

About a third of Land O' Lakes homes have four bedrooms or more, going by the Census Bureau's survey estimates for the census area. In a house like that, a secondary bedroom can be much smaller than the main one, so a fan that suits the main bedroom can be too wide for the room down the hall.

About 640 homes in the same area are mobile homes. When a manufactured home is set up, the federal installation standards call for a ceiling fan to be hung on a box listed and marked for fan use, with the trailing edges of its blades at least 6 feet 4 inches above the finished floor. A fan added later also responds to its own instructions, and many fan manuals specify at least 7 feet. On a lower ceiling, that can rule out a downrod and point to a fan that mounts close to the ceiling.

How it runs

What Happens Between the Request and the First Spin

  1. 1

The fans you have in mind

Fans you've already chosen go on the request by model. Rooms that still have no pick can wait, because the measurements taken in the estimate narrow down their choices.

  2. 2

    Each ceiling looked at

At the estimate, the electrician opens the fixture that's there now, reads the box behind it, and checks what the box is fastened to. Ceilings are measured from the floor, so a fan too tall for a room is caught before it's bought.

  3. 3

A permit for any new spot

A fan where no fixture hangs today needs new cable from a switch, and that new wiring goes through a Pasco permit. Kennedy Electric files for it and schedules the county inspection that follows.

  4. 4

    The install day

Old fixtures come down, boxes are replaced where the estimate called for it, and each fan is hung, balanced, and run at every speed before the next room is started.

What we cover

Sized to the Room, Hung to the Height

Span, against the room; The blade diameter is matched to the room, with the tips kept clear of walls, an open door, and a closet that swings out beneath them.

Rating, against the spot: A fan rated for dry locations stays indoors. A covered front porch takes a fan rated at least for damp locations, and a wet rating wherever rain can reach it.

The light kit, against the room's only light: Where the fixture coming down was the room's one ceiling light, a fan with a light kit keeps the room lit from above on the same switch.

Weight, against the box: The box above the fixture is read for its fan-support marking and the weight it's listed to carry. A light-only box, or one listed for less than the new fan, is replaced with a fan-rated box fastened to the framing.

Height, against the floor: The downrod is cut, or a close-mount fan chosen, so the blades sit clear of heads and tall furniture.

Pricing

The Ceiling Sets the Fan Price

01

Two fans in the same house can have different prices. One goes onto a box already listed for its weight; the next needs its box replaced and fastened to the framing first, and a fan in a spot with no fixture adds cable from a switch and the county permit.

02

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

03

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

Our warranty

04

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Common questions

Fan Decisions That Depend on the Room

One bedroom in our Land O' Lakes house has bunk beds. Can it still have a ceiling fan?

It can, if the ceiling allows. The blades have to sit well above the top bunk, so that room's height is measured separately in the estimate, and the fan for it is chosen to clear the bunk, even if the other bedrooms use a different model.

We live in a mobile home in Land O' Lakes, and the ceiling is low. What if no fan clears the height?

Then you'll know at the visit, before anything is ordered. Each room is measured, and where no fan can keep its blades as high as its instructions require, that room is left without one, and you can choose another room for the fan.

The fan we picked doesn't have a light kit, and it's replacing the room's only ceiling light. What happens to the light?

The room loses its ceiling light, and the wall switch then runs only the fan. If you'd like light from the switch as well, the options are a fan with a light kit or a switched outlet for a lamp, which would require new wiring. It's worth deciding before the fan is ordered.

Can a ceiling fan go in the garage?

Yes. Its blades have to clear the garage door and the opener's rail when the door is up, which determines where along the ceiling it can hang.

Our new fan came with a remote. Does the wall switch still matter?

Yes. The remote talks to a receiver inside the fan's canopy, and that receiver needs power, so the wall switch has to stay on for the remote to work. It stays a plain on-and-off switch, and speed and light are set from the remote.
