Where the Boulevard Is Growing, and the Permit Question
Land O' Lakes Boulevard is the local name for US 41, the main road north and south, while SR 54 carries traffic east and west. New restaurants, a car wash, and gas stations were on the way along the boulevard in 2021, The Laker/Lutz News reported, with much of that activity running from Bell Lake Road north toward SR 52 and its signs much less obvious south of Bell Lake Road. So a lighting job here can be the canopy and wall lights of a newer pad, or ceiling fixtures that have hung in a plaza unit since it opened, and the plan for each looks different.
An LED changeover can go past a plain swap: rewiring sockets for LED tubes, adding or moving fixtures, or running a new circuit. Whether a commercial job needs a permit is determined with the county before work starts, and where one is required, we file for it and schedule the inspection.
How it runs
From the Parking Lot to the Last Room
-
1
The lot and the walls outside
Outdoors, the list covers the wall packs, the area lights, and any canopy over the pumps or a wash bay. Each head is listed with what it's there to light, which is what its replacement is chosen for.
-
2
The rooms your customers see
Inside, the dining room, sales floor, or waiting area is counted by fixture type and ceiling height.
-
3
The back of the house
Storage rooms, back halls, and the prep area come next, counted the same way. Fixtures wired to keep burning in an outage are marked wherever they hang, since each needs an LED emergency driver of its own, or a self-contained emergency unit beside it.

Changing the lights over
Where the county requires a permit, we file it first and book the inspection, and someone at the business lets the inspector in. Every fixture rewired for LED tubes is then marked as converted.

What we cover
Lighting by the Kind of Business
Restaurants: Dining-room fixtures, the lights in the back hallway and storage room, and the fixtures over the prep area, converted to LED or replaced with new fixtures where the old housings have worn out.
Fuel canopies and wash bays: Canopy heads over the pumps changed to LED canopy fixtures, and bay lights replaced with fixtures rated for the wet spot they hang in.
Medical and professional offices: Ceiling panels over exam rooms, desks, and the waiting area, with a single color temperature for the whole suite.
Long-running plaza units: Original fluorescent troffers and strip lights, rewired so LED tubes run on the old sockets, given an LED kit inside, or taken down for a new fixture, depending on what shape each one is in.
The side facing the road: Wall packs beside the doors and the lights over the front parking spaces, replaced with shielded LED types aimed down at what they're meant to light.
Fixtures that have already quit: A fixture that flickers, buzzes, or won't light is tested to find out why, and if you'd rather keep that one on fluorescent, the repair can be a new ballast.
Pricing
What Goes Into a Lighting Changeover Estimate
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installations, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Our warranty
04If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
Our restaurant opened a few years ago in one of the newer buildings north of Bell Lake Road. Is there anything to change over?
We run a fuel station off SR 54. Do all the pumps have to close while the canopy lights are changed?
We'd like to dim the dining room after the lunch rush. Can the new LED fixtures do that?
Our exit signs are as old as the ceiling fixtures. Can they be changed over in the same job?
We'd rather order the LED fixtures ourselves. Will you install the ones we buy?
