Flood-Damaged Circuits, Service Equipment, Repairs, and Upgrades|Office Staff Answers the Phone|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268

After Hurricane Milton in October 2024, the Withlacoochee River kept rising through southern and western Ridge Manor and crested days after the wind had gone. A flood like that doesn't arrive with the storm. It can reach a house after the lights are back on.

We can help you get ahead of rising water and put the wiring right once it goes down.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

Let us know if the water reached the house, the yard, or only the road.

Local conditions

When the Withlacoochee Rises After the Storm

The river winds through the southern and western parts of Ridge Manor, so a Ridge Manor address alone doesn't put a house in its path. For the homes near it, Milton showed how a river flood behaves differently from a hurricane's wind or a coastal surge.

01

Slow water, live circuits

A river that keeps climbing for days gives you time to act, but it also means the power may be on when water reaches the first outlet. Water touching a live outlet or a cord can carry voltage into the surrounding water.

  • While the water is still outside: switch off the breakers for the garage, outdoor outlets, and any outbuilding, or the main breaker, if the panel is dry and you can reach it standing on dry ground.
  • If water is already in the room with the panel: stay out of the room and ask the power company to cut service at the meter.
  • Unplug and lift what you can reach from the dry floor: extension cords, power strips, and anything plugged in low.
02

Once the river goes down

River water carries silt into a device, and what it leaves inside can carry current where it shouldn't. Low equipment outside, such as the AC disconnect, pool equipment, and outdoor outlets, gets checked before it runs again.

03

The paperwork for a flood rebuild

A year after Milton, Hernando County Development Services held a storm permitting workshop at the Ridge Manor Community Center on Cortez Boulevard, with the Building Division and the county's Long-Term Recovery Group on hand. Residents were asked to bring invoices, receipts, and contractor quotes, which could qualify for same-day approval of a storm permit.

So keep the written estimate for the electrical side of a flood repair with the rest of your recovery papers.

After weeks of water

What the River Leaves for an Electrician

01

Meter base and riser

A month after Milton, Bay News 9 found Ridge Manor homes still standing in floodwater, and the Southwest Florida Water Management District had warned the water would take weeks to recede. A meter base and riser that sat in water that long are opened, checked for rust and water inside, and replaced where the damage has set in.

02

Outlets closest to the floor

A GFCI outlet that sat in river floodwater is replaced, and a new one goes in, even though its test button still works.

03

A shed or shop on its own circuit

When a shed or shop runs on an extension cord or an outlet it shares with the house, a proper feed of its own is worth adding before the next flood.

How a visit works

Booking Us in Ridge Manor

Our shop is about 25 minutes from Ridge Manor. Office staff picks up the phone during business hours and will ask what's out and whether it started with the storm or with the river.

Ridge Manor is unincorporated, so when flood repairs or an upgrade need a permit, we pull it with the Hernando County Building Division.

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Frequently asked Questions

Ridge Manor Questions for an Electrician

The river crested. Can I turn the power back on?

Not on the crest alone. After Milton, Hernando County officials said that where the Withlacoochee had crested, water was still spreading into new areas. Wait until the water is out of the house and away from the outdoor equipment, and don't turn any circuit that was underwater back on until it has been checked.
