Electrical Panel Repair in Land O' Lakes, FL

Burnt Lugs, Failed Mains, and Rusted Breakers Replaced|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268

A hot breaker, a scorched lug, or rust inside the box can mean a single repair or the end of the panel. Which of the two it is becomes clear once the power is off and the cover is open, and if the answer is a new panel, that gets a written price of its own.

Have the panel label handy, or a photo of it.

The Label and the Year

A Land O' Lakes panel can be the one the house was built with or one changed after a 4-point report, and the house's age won't say which, so the label inside the door matters before anything else: the maker and model tell us which breakers are listed for that box.

A replacement panel is also awaiting the county. Under Pasco's power release policy, a house that is energized before Building Construction Services releases the power has its final electrical inspections automatically failed.

How it runs

Opening the Box Without Surprises

  1. 1

    The maker and model first

The label inside the door lists the breakers for the panel, so the right parts can be brought on the first visit. Tell us what you noticed and when it started. A picture with the door swung open, label and breakers in view, saves a second trip for parts.

  2. 2

Lugs, main, or the whole panel

With the cover off and the power off, the electrician sorts the job: a repair inside the box, or a panel that has reached its end.

  3. 3

A new panel goes through the county

We file the permit and schedule the county's inspection.

  4. 4

    Labels for what we touched

Before the cover goes back on, each circuit we worked on gets a correct label in the panel directory.

What we cover

One Part or the Whole Box

A failed main breaker: The breaker that shuts off the whole house is replaced with one listed for that panel.

Burnt lugs where the service wires land: The lugs are replaced. If the heat has reached the bus bar behind them, the repair stops there, and a new panel is priced instead.

One bad breaker in a sound panel: A breaker that runs hot or won't stay on is checked along with the wire it holds. If the breaker itself has failed, one listed for the panel goes in.

Corrosion inside the box: A panel on an outside wall takes humid air all year, which is where rust tends to show up. Parts that are still sound stay. Parts that the rust has reached are priced as repairs, or as replacements if it has eaten through the box.

A Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel, or one past 30 years: Our advice for these is a new panel, priced on a written estimate of its own.

Pricing

Billed While the Cover Is Off

01

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

02

If the answer is a new panel, that job gets its own estimate, separate from the repair visit.

03

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

Our warranty

04

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Common questions

Old Panels, Empty Houses, and Blank Labels

Our house was built before 1990. How do we know whether the panel is the original?

Photograph the sticker on the inside of the panel door and send it to us. The maker and model printed there place the panel in its era. If the panel was changed after the house was built, Pasco's permit records, which anyone can search online, may show when. If the sticker is gone or can't be read, say so when you book, and the electrician will identify the panel during the visit.

Can we swap a breaker ourselves if we turn off the main first?

We'd advise against it. With the main breaker off, the service wires coming in from the meter and the lugs they land on are still live, so the box isn't safe to reach into. A breaker that looks like it fits but was made for another panel may not grip the bus bar firmly, and a loose fit there is where heat starts. If a breaker has failed, book the repair.

We bought a house that sat empty for more than a year. Can the power company just turn it on?

Not in Pasco. After a house has been vacant for a year or more, the county requires an electrical safety permit, and its electrical inspector verifies that no work has been done and that the house is safe to energize before power is released. The safety permit is its own step, separate from any repair, and anyone may apply for it, including the owner. Tell us the house has been empty when you book, so the visit fits the county's process. Any repair the visit turns up is handled as its own job, with its own permit if the county requires one.

After a panel repair, who tells the power company to turn the power back on?

Usually not us. Pasco's power release policy keeps contractors from asking the power company for a release, with a few exceptions, a replaced main breaker and burnt lugs among them, where the power company can restore power without a permit. Whether your repair needs a permit is still the county's call, and you hear it from us before work begins. For a panel or service change, the county's electrical inspector sends the power release to the power company once the final inspection passes.

Half the labels in our panel are blank. Can you fill in the rest?

Ask for it when you book. Tracing the unlabeled circuits takes a circuit tracer and is billed at the same hourly rate as the repair, so the office can tell you how much time to plan for.
