The Three Layers
Three Layers of a Smart Home Electrical Plan
At the wall: switches, dimmers, and outlets
A smart switch or dimmer runs the light from the wall and from the app. Smart plugs suit lamps; anything wired in takes a smart switch or an in-wall smart outlet.
Across the house: lighting control and hubs
Whole-home lighting control ties lights, scenes, and wall keypads together through a hub, so one button can set a room or the whole house for the evening. We install the switches, keypads, and wiring that lighting-control systems like Lutron run on. These systems lean on a steady home network, so a wired connection to the hub and hardwired Wi-Fi access points help.
At the panel: smart panels and breakers
A smart panel replaces the main electrical panel and shows what each circuit is using, with circuits you can switch off from an app. Smart breakers bring circuit monitoring to a compatible load center. Either one is panel work, permitted and inspected where the county requires it.
At the front door
A video doorbell runs on the old doorbell's wiring and transformer, which sometimes needs an upgrade to power it.
We don't install smart thermostats. An HVAC contractor handles those, since they're part of the heating and cooling system.
We don't do home theater, audio-video prewire, or whole-house audio. We refer that work to an audio-video specialist.

How Smart Home work is priced
Smart Home Estimates
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Our warranty
03If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
