Recessed Lighting Installation in Brooksville, FL
New Lights, Old Cans Converted to LED|Dimmers Paired to the Lights|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Say whether there's attic space above the ceiling.
- Finished ceilings: Lights added to a room that had none.
- Insulated attics: Housings rated to sit in insulation.
- Licensed & Insured: Florida Certified Electrical Contractor EC13011268.
New recessed lights can look wrong on the very first night. They flicker or hum on the dimmer, or they turn the kitchen a flat, grayish white that makes food and faces look off.
Those are the two mistakes we most often see in do-it-yourself and handyman recessed jobs: a dimmer that doesn't suit the lights, and lights chosen without considering their color rendering. We settle both before the first opening is cut.
Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.
Getting Recessed Lights right
Dimmers, Color, and the Ceiling Above: What Makes Recessed Lights Work
The right dimmer
An LED light's driver has to read the dimmer's signal, and on a dimmer made for incandescent bulbs, LED lights can flicker, buzz, or drop out low on the slider.
Color rendering, the number people skip
Color rendering index, or CRI, rates, on a scale of 100, how true colors appear under a light compared with natural light. Under a low-CRI light, reds turn brownish, and skin looks gray. For kitchens, bathrooms, and anywhere you judge color, look for 90 CRI or higher on the box.
Color temperature is a separate choice: 2700K reads warm, 3000K a little crisper, and 4000K or higher closer to daylight. One temperature per room keeps the ceiling from looking patchy.
Layout and spacing
A rule of thumb for general lighting is to space the lights about half the ceiling height apart, so roughly 4 feet on an 8-foot ceiling, with the first row 2 to 3 feet from the walls. Over a kitchen counter, the lights line up along the front edge so the light falls on the work surface rather than on the back of your head. Joists, ducts, and what's in the attic decide where a light can actually go, so the layout gets checked against the space above before it's final.
What sits in the attic above
Where a recessed light sits in an insulated ceiling, the housing has to be IC-rated, meaning it's built to be in contact with insulation. Housing that isn't IC-rated needs clearance from insulation to avoid overheating. Airtight housings, marked IC and airtight, also keep cooled air from leaking into the attic around each light.
Canless LED fixtures, thin lights with a separate junction box, fit ceilings with little room above.
How a Recessed job runs
Five Steps, Layout First
-
1
1. Tell us the room and the goal
General light, task light over a counter, or accent light on a wall. Say whether you're adding lights or replacing old cans, and send a photo of the ceiling.
-
2
2. Layout at the estimate visit
We check the joists and the attic above, mark where the lights can go, and talk through dimming zones and color.
-
3
3. Cable, housings, and dimmers
Cable is run from the attic where there's access, the housings or canless fixtures go in, and a dimmer goes on each zone.
-
4
4. Each zone tested on its dimmer
Each zone is run from full brightness down to its lowest setting to check for flicker or buzz.
-
5
5. A walk through the controls
You're shown which dimmer runs which lights.

How Recessed Lighting is priced
Recessed Lighting Estimates
We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.
We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.
Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.
Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.
Our warranty
04If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.
Real customer stories
Two Homes, New Recessed Lights
A fan and hat lights, some where no light had been
“Our tech Kevin was awesome. He was on time, personable, super friendly and not at all bothered with my wife’s mundane electrical questions (her words, not mine). We had a ceiling fan and hat lights installed... the ceiling light was from scratch so to speak as there was no previous lighting. As were two of the hat lights. Kevin was meticulous in the installation and made sure my wife and I were happy with the lighting... just an overall great experience.”
