Temporary construction power wired by Kennedy Electric on a job site near Brooksville, FL.
  • Protected outlets: GFCI protection on the receptacles the crews plug into.

The trades arrive before the building has power. Saws, compressors, chargers, and work lights need a safe place to plug in from the first day on site.

We set up temporary power for construction sites and remodels, so the job has lights and outlets until the permanent service is in place.

Call (352) 251-2795, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or send a request online. Calls after hours are returned the next business day.

What job-site Power involves

Power for a Site That Isn't Finished Yet

01

A small, complete service

A temporary service is a compact electrical service of its own: a meter base for the power company's meter, a panel with breakers and outlets, mounted on a pole or post where the utility line can reach it. It powers the site from the day it's connected until the building's own service is ready.

02

Protection for the people on site

Construction sites put cords and tools in mud, rain, and standing water. The electrical code calls for ground-fault protection on the temporary receptacles workers plug into, so a damaged cord or a wet tool trips the circuit, lowering the risk of a serious shock.

03

The power company's part

The power company connects the temporary service and sets the meter, and it typically wants the building department's approval of the installation first. Both schedules are outside the builder's control, so temporary power belongs early on the job calendar.

04

Remodels in a building that has power

Where a building already has working service, temporary power for a remodel can come from the existing panel through temporary circuits and GFCI-protected outlets, with no separate pole.

On custom homes, temporary power carries the site until the new service is built.

Pricing

The Cost of Temporary Power

01

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

What the price depends on

03
  • The distance from the utility connection to where the power is needed.
  • How many outlets and lights the site needs.
  • A pole-mounted temporary service or temporary circuits from an existing panel.

Warranty

04

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Frequently asked questions

Keeping a Job Site Powered

How long can temporary power stay in place?

For the length of the construction or remodeling work. The electrical code allows temporary power for that period and expects it to come out when the work is done.

A GFCI on the temporary service keeps tripping. What should the crew do?

Don't reset it while cords or tools are wet or damaged. Unplug everything, then plug tools back in one at a time. The one that trips it, or its cord, is the problem, and a cord with cuts or a missing ground pin should come off the site. If it trips with nothing plugged in, call us.
