Tarrytown

Tarrytown Homes and Land

Tarrytown is an unincorporated community in central Sumter County, with Webster to the north, St. Catherine to the west, and Linden to the east. The Census Bureau doesn't measure Tarrytown as a place in its own right, so there's no local figure for the age or type of its homes.

That shapes the first visit. It starts from the house itself: the year it was built and whatever else on the property draws power, from a barn to a pump.

We wire barns and outbuildings and run power to well pumps.

Booking

Booking From Tarrytown

Our service area is drawn by drive time, up to roughly an hour from the shop, and Tarrytown sits inside it.

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installs, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

Farm Buildings and Sheds Under Sumter County Rules

01

Barns with an agricultural plaque

Farming is one of Tarrytown's two chief industries, along with timber. Florida Statute 604.50 exempts a nonresidential farm building on land used for bona fide agriculture, such as a barn, greenhouse, or storage building, from the Florida Building Code and county codes, except floodplain rules.

Sumter County marks that exemption with a green plaque, issued only after the Property Appraiser has put an agricultural exemption on the parcel. The county says a copy of the approved application can go to your power company to get electricity to the building.

02

Workshops and RV shelters

The county's plaque application rules out buildings used for personal storage, as a kennel, or for covering or storing an RV. Wiring a home workshop or an RV shelter in Tarrytown goes through a permit from Sumter County Building Services instead.

Frequently asked questions

What Tarrytown Callers Want to Know

My mailing address says Webster. Who issues the permit?

Tarrytown and Webster share the 33597 ZIP code, but Tarrytown is unincorporated, so electrical permits are issued by Sumter County Building Services. If your job needs a permit, that's the office we pull it from.
