Commercial LED Lighting in Bayonet Point, FL

Older Storefronts, Pad Buildings, and Offices|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268

Kennedy Electric converts fluorescent fixtures in Bayonet Point stores and offices to LED and repairs fixtures that have gone dark or begun to flicker. A building that has stood since the 1970s or 1980s can hold fixtures from more than one era, and each kind gets the conversion that suits it.

The year the building was built helps us decide which fixtures to look at first.

At a glance

When the Building Went Up Shapes the Lighting Job

The commercial building here dates back to at least the early 1970s. In 1972 and 1973, the developer of Beacon Woods built a small shopping area called Village Square, according to the community association's history. Out on US 19, a freestanding retail building at 12105 was built in 1986, according to its current lease listing. Buildings from those years were put up when fluorescent lighting was the usual choice, so a storefront of that age can still have a few of its original fixtures in a back room, next to others that were replaced once and newer ones from a later remodel.

Converting what's already on the ceiling is one kind of job, and installing fixtures where there were none is another. On a Pasco commercial job, a permit is required when new circuits are added or existing ones extended, and the county's commercial list requires energy and load calculations with the plans.

How it runs

Starting With the Oldest Fixtures

  1. 1

Oldest fixtures on the list first

Fixtures that look original to the building go on the list first, then the ones replaced since, then any from a later remodel, each kind counted separately with its ceiling height noted.

  2. 2

What converts now, and what can wait

Converting in stages is an option. Fixtures you choose not to convert now stay on fluorescent, and a failing ballast in one of them can be replaced in the meantime.

  3. 3

A permit, if fixtures are added

If the plan adds fixtures or extends a circuit, the county's permit comes before that part of the work. Kennedy Electric sends Pasco that application and sets up the inspection that follows.

  4. 4

A room at a time, on weekdays

The crew converts one area at a time while the rest of the building carries on. Where one circuit feeds more than one room, those rooms go dark together while it's off.

What we cover

Original, Replaced Once, or Newer

First fixtures from a 1970s storefront: Troffers and strip lights that have hung since the building opened, which can still run on the original magnetic ballasts. Sound sockets get rewired for LED tubes, and cracked or brittle ones call for an LED kit inside the housing.

Fixtures already replaced once: A 1980s pad building can have fixtures changed out years ago, with ballasts of different ages behind similar lenses. Each kind is listed separately and converted to match the rest.

Rooms that never got updated: Restrooms, stockrooms, and back halls, where plain wraps and strips are converted or taken down for a new LED fixture when the housing is rusted or bent.

Fixtures that keep an area lit in an outage: An LED emergency driver for each one, or a separate emergency light beside it, so the area keeps some light through an outage.

A fixture that's dark right now: Tested to find out whether the tube, the ballast, the sockets, or the wiring is the cause, and then repaired or converted, whichever suits the rest of the room.

Pricing

Quotes Built Around the Fixture Count

01

The quote rests on the count and the method chosen for each kind, and on the fixtures with emergency backup, the ceiling heights, and the number of kinds of fixtures the building's decades have left behind.

02

Custom homes and large or multi-phase projects are estimated as soon as we can, or on the timeline your project sets.

03

Repair and troubleshooting visits are billed by the hour from arrival: $100 residential, $150 commercial, one-hour minimum, then half-hour increments, plus materials. No trip charge and no service fee. No hidden fees: the 3.5% surcharge on card and ACH payments is listed in our terms.

04

We don't do upfront pricing. No job has a standard price with us: each one is tailored to the property and the work you've asked for, and priced once we've seen it.

We offer free estimates on installations, upgrades, and replacements in our service area. Estimates aren't free when the job needs troubleshooting or testing to price, falls after hours or outside our service area, needs several meetings to gather information, or is new construction or a custom remodel with multi-party walk-throughs. For most jobs, estimates arrive by email by the end of the next business day, and quotes are good for 30 days.

Our warranty

05

If something we installed fails because of our workmanship within 30 days of completion, we waive the hourly labor to put it right. Materials Kennedy Electric purchases for your job carry the manufacturer's one-year warranty. To replace defective materials we supplied, or materials damaged by storm, flood, fire, or other acts of God, we charge a reduced warranty labor rate of $50 an hour residential and $75 an hour commercial. The warranty does not cover materials not purchased by Kennedy Electric, work performed by the customer, or materials the customer purchased or damaged. Our warranty terms are printed on the estimate, the invoice, and the receipt, and the product boxes stay with you so you can register each product with its manufacturer.

Common questions

Ceilings That Have Seen a Remodel or Two

Our shop is in an older strip off State Road 52, with the original lay-in ceiling. Do the tiles have to come out?

Not for the conversion itself. Ballast-bypass tubes and LED kits go inside the existing housing, and a new 2x4 LED flat panel drops into the same opening in the grid. Stained or cracked tiles around a fixture fall outside the electrical work, so plan for them separately if they bother you. An old fixture that leaves an opening of a different size is noted on the walk-through, before any new fixture is ordered.

We lease a 1980s freestanding building on US 19. The sales floor was redone, but the stockroom still has its first fixtures. Can we convert just the stockroom?

Yes, if your lease leaves fixture changes to you. Which areas are converted is then your choice, and the quote covers only those fixtures, listed by type. If the sales floor is already on LED, pick a color temperature for the stockroom that suits it, so a door left open doesn't show two different whites.

A ballast hums over our register, and the tubes in that fixture flicker. Replace the ballast or convert?

Either can be done, and we recommend converting. A hum, together with a flicker, is a sign that a ballast is on its way out. Swapping in a new ballast keeps the fixture on fluorescent tubes, while a conversion removes the ballast from the picture. If you'd rather keep fluorescent in that spot, the new ballast is what gets installed.

Our building has fixtures from three different decades. Is that one quote or several?

One quote. Each kind of fixture gets its own line with the method chosen for it, whether that kind came with the building or arrived in a later remodel, so you can see where the older fixtures end and the newer ones begin.

Does someone need to be at the business while the lights are being converted?

Yes. Someone has to let the crew in, keep a path clear to the panel that feeds the lights, and settle the order in which the rooms go dark. The work runs Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., so a stockroom or back office can go first while the sales floor stays lit until its turn.
