RV Battery-Charger Outlets and RV Garage Wiring in Shady Hills, FL
Power for a Stored RV's Battery Charger|RV Garage Wiring|Licensed & Insured, EC13011268
Give the lot's size and where on it the RV is kept.
Pasco County allows an RV that's parked or stored at a Shady Hills home to be connected to a battery charger. Its rules don't allow the RV to be connected to water, sewer, or electric lines otherwise, and they don't allow it to be lived in there, apart from a short guest stay under a county permit.
The county also specifies where on the lot the RV may be parked. We wire an outlet at that spot for keeping a stored RV's batteries charged, and we wire RV garages.

The county's rule
What Pasco's Code Says About a Plugged-In RV
The county's land development code says a parked RV "shall not be connected to water, sewer, or electric lines, except that properly parked or stored RVs may be connected to battery chargers." That applies at homes on agricultural, agricultural-residential, and residentially zoned property. The code's definition of an RV includes camping trailers, motor homes, fifth-wheel trailers, and pickup campers, as well as boats and utility trailers.
It's also unlawful to use a parked RV for residential purposes, in the daytime as well as overnight. An electric, water, sewage, generator, or cable connection to the RV creates a presumption that it is being used for residential purposes. A hookup for living in an RV parked at a home isn't something the county allows, so it isn't what this page offers.
What we wire here is narrower: an outlet for keeping a parked or stored RV's batteries charged, set where the county lets the RV stand, and the lights, outlets, and door opener in an RV garage built under a permit.
The code doesn't define a battery charger or say what the connection to one looks like. Ask Pasco County Code Compliance how it applies the battery-charger exception to your RV and your lot before any outlet goes in.
Where the RV May Stand
Where a Stored RV May Stand on a Shady Hills Lot
The county treats acreage and agricultural parcels one way and smaller residential lots another. On both, an RV stays out of the road right-of-way and at least 5 feet from the side and rear property lines.
An acre or more, or agricultural zoning
If your parcel is zoned agricultural or agricultural-residential, or it's a residential lot of an acre or more, an RV may be parked or stored anywhere on it outside the front setback. Parcels in one district, estate-residential (E-R), are held to the smaller-lot limits at any size.
On acreage, the allowed spot can be a long way from the house, beside a barn or at the back of the property. An outlet for the battery charger then stands on a post at that spot, the cable to it is buried, and the length of the run sets the wire size.
A residential lot under an acre
Here the RV goes in the rear yard or in one side yard, behind the front line of the house. It has to be screened from the neighboring properties by an opaque 6-foot fence or by vegetation at least 6 feet high and 75% opaque, and on a corner lot it can't go on the side that faces the road.
That puts the charger outlet on a side or rear wall of the house, or on a post inside the fence. The run is short when the panel is on the same side of the house. When it isn't, the cable runs across the attic or around the outside in conduit.
Short stays the code allows
The code also makes two short-term parking allowances:
- Trip preparation. A camper or motor home may be parked in the driveway for trip preparation, loading, unloading, and cleanup for up to 72 hours in any seven-day period, up to four times a calendar year.
- A houseguest's RV. A guest who doesn't live in Pasco County may keep an RV at the house for up to 10 days, four times a calendar year, with at least 30 days between stays. It requires a Guest RV Parking Permit, obtained before the RV is parked and kept on display; during that stay, the guest's RV may be temporarily used for residential purposes.
